Obituary

Frances (Betty) Blehm,

Hemlock, Michigan.

Loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and aunt went home to be with Jesus on February 11, 2021 after a short battle with cancer. The youngest of nine children, Frances was born July of 1931 in Merrill, Michigan to Frank and Barbara (Pahl) Dvorak who had emigrated from Bohemia. After growing up on the family farm, Betty met Elmer Blehm at her brother’s wedding and they married October of 1951. Elmer survives her. Betty used the time that God gave her to care for people. She cared for her husband, children, mother, grandchildren and countless others throughout her life. A devout Catholic, she lived her faith every day and taught Catechism at St. Mary’s Parish, Hemlock, for 8 years. As a proud Democrat she loved her country and took great pride in being a first generation American. She enjoyed polkas, quilting, gardening, and was a talented baker. Most of all she loved spending time with her family and was never too busy to share her home for visits where many happy hours were spent. Betty was a gift to her family and her community. Her memory will serve as an example of what a Mother’s love can achieve in the lives of others and what it truly means to be a Grandma.

Surviving besides her husband of 69 years, Elmer, are their three daughters, Louise (Robert) Bunterbart, Jane (Mark) Smith, Janice Kay (Robert) Wheeler; six grandchildren, Lynn (Todd) Fox, Dan (Angela) Bunterbart, Emily Smith, Alan Smith, Michelle (Marc) Stickel, Theresa (Chris) Tompa; seven great-grandchildren, Oakley Bunterbart, Penny, Virginia, Daphne, and Poppy Stickel, Bradley and Vivian Tompa; one sister, Alice Zeitler; sisters-in-law, Beverly Dvorak, Charlotte Dvorak, Ruth (Bill) Hillis and many nieces and nephews who she dearly loved. Betty was preceded in death by her brothers, Joseph Dvorak, Charles (Ginny) Dvorak, Robert Dvorak, Frank (Eleanor) Dvorak, William Dvorak; sisters, Mary (Rolly) Goodspeed, Emily (Wyman) Kennedy; brothers-in-law, Lloyd Zeitler, Weldon Watson; several nieces and a nephew, Dan Kennedy.

Funeral Liturgy will take place 11:00 a.m. Monday, February 15, 2021 at St. John XXIII Parish, 151 St. Mary’s Dr., Hemlock, Michigan. Rev. Fr. Michael Steltenkamp S.J. will officiate with burial in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Merrill, Michigan. Friends may visit at The Snow Funeral Home, 3775 N. Center Rd. (between Shattuck and McCarty) where the family will be present on Sunday from 12:00 noon to 5:00 p.m. and at the church on Monday from 10:00 a.m. until time of Mass. In accordance with the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services ordinance, the limitations of number gathered, mask wearing and social distancing will be observed. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to Southern Care Hospice, St. John XXIII Parish or Saginaw County Animal Shelter.

She was a wonderful mother who was always there for any of us. Nearly every day we had a telephone conversation, sometimes several. She loved to discuss politics and the status of the country, along with all the family happenings. She was my go to phone call to tell all the little things that go on in our life. Its not mentioned much because she was always so busy seeing to other people, but my Mom was a very intelligent woman with well informed opinions. She was my friend and mother and I will miss her daily. Jane
