Loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother passed away Saturday, October 2, 2021 at Symphony of TriCities. Age 89 years. The daughter of the late Leon and Ena (Barker) Barrows, Virginia was born January 15, 1932 in Lansing, Michigan. She was married to Fortino Gutierrez Sr. He predeceased her January 20, 2007. Virginia graduated from East Lansing High School. She enjoyed playing the piano and accordion and travelling. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. Her legacy of always being there for her family no matter what and her unending love will forever be remembered.
Surviving to cherish her memory are five children, Maxine and Mark LaValey, St. Charles; Tina Marie and Samuel Hernandez, Saginaw; Sandra L. Kern, Delray Beach Florida; Victoria and Troy Schram Sr., Saginaw; Robin Gutierrez, Ft. Lauderdale, Florida; loving step-mother to, Fortino Gutierrez, Jr., Poteet, Texas; Frank and Irene Gutierrez, San Antonio, Texas; Elida and Hugo Gottlich, South Carolina; Charles Bishop, Birch Run; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews; one sister, Judy (Raymond) Orel, Holt, Michigan; a sister-in-law, Asencion Esquivel. Virginia was preceded in death by two daughters, Mary Gerard Gutierrez and Karen Gotham; three siblings, Donora Barrows, Doris Alvarez and Joan Cook.
Funeral Liturgy will take place 10:30 a.m. on Friday, October 8, 2021 at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, 5376 State St., Saginaw. Rev. Fr. Kevin Wojciechowski will officiate with burial in St. Andrew Cemetery. Friends may visit at The Snow Funeral Home where the family will be present on Thursday from 2:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. and on Friday at the church from 9:30 a.m. until the time of Mass. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to a charity of their choice.
