Obituary for Virginia Berghoff

Virginia A. Berghoff

Beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother passed away Wednesday, March 17, 2021 at Covenant HealthCare Harrison. Age 96 years. The daughter of the late Guy and Gertrude (Corby) DeRosier, Virginia was born December 30, 1924 in New York, New York. She married Joseph Berghoff on May 17, 1947. He predeceased her January 11, 2009. Virginia was a founding member of St. Stephen Catholic Church and a current member of Holy Spirit Catholic Church. She was employed as a bookkeeper at Queen of Angels Retreat House for 31 years until its closing. Virginia enjoyed reading, crocheting, sewing and loved spending time with her family.

Surviving are three sons, three daughters and their spouses, James and Susan Berghoff, Stephen and Linda Berghoff, Patrick and Barbara Wesolek, Kathryn and Jeff Henning, David and Carol Berghoff, Anne Berghoff; 12 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Virginia was preceded in death by an infant son, Joseph and by two sisters and one brother, Mary Packard, Theresa Burkey and Joseph DeRosier, and by three step-brothers, Randall, Alfred and Orson Carlton.

Funeral Liturgy will take place 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, March 23, 2021 at Holy Spirit Catholic Church, 1035 N. River Road in Saginaw. Rev. Fr. Peter Gaspeny will officiate with burial in St. Andrew Cemetery. Friends may visit at Holy Spirit Catholic Church where the family will be present on Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. until time of Mass. In accordance with the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services ordinance, the limitations of number gathered, mask wearing and social distancing will be observed. In lieu of flowers, those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to the Capuchin Soup Kitchen.
