Ursula Ann Steckert,
Saginaw Twp., Michigan.
Ursula A. Steckert, at the young age of 55, went to be with the Lord on June 10, 2021 after a long, brutal battle with Covid-19. Daughter of the late Ken and Caroline (Ursuy ) Steckert, Ursula was born October 7, 1965, and was a lifelong resident of Saginaw, Michigan, making MANY friends and building a life rich in experiences of work and service. Ursula’s career spanned a variety of occupations from Public Relations, Pharmaceuticals, Phlebotomist, Artist and most recently, Special Education Teacher for Saginaw Public Schools. She attended Saints Peter & Paul Catholic High School, class of 1983, and is a graduate of Central Michigan University. Ursula volunteered in many service projects, non-profits, associations and golf tournaments. She also ran for public office, as she had a drive to serve the community. One of her long-time service contributions was to Junior League of the Great Lakes Bay Region. She joined in 1992 and held the position of Treasurer for a time. She also had the honor of receiving the Golden Rose Award. Rotary Club of Saginaw was another service club Ursula was involved in. She was an active member since 2010, serving as President 2012-2013. She was elected a Paul Harris Fellow in 2014. Ursula was involved in many areas of service in Rotary, including Rotary Youth Exchange, making friends and making a difference around the globe. She was a World Traveler, visiting exotic locations where she would stay with one of her many friends.
Ursula found much joy in life and celebrations. She loved to entertain and spend as much time with loved ones as possible. She had a gift of bringing people together who didn’t know each other and having them leave as friends. She had an appreciation for the fine things in life but would also get her hands dirty while fishing for salmon or doing one of her many craft projects of painting or making purses out of cigar boxes. She combined her passion for Teaching and Art through her popular “Cocktails & Canvases” painting classes.
Fearless in her pursuits in life, Ursula took on challenges that pushed the boundaries of her comfort zone, both in her careers and personal life. It was the fear of blood that actually drove her to become a phlebotomist! And on her 50th birthday she conquered sky diving and took flying lessons. She experienced the joy of motherhood for a year when she fostered a beautiful 6 year old little girl, named Taylor. She was also a “Pet Mom” to several pets over her lifetime, most recently to her two pups, Carolyn Coco Chanel and to Buster Brown, who passed away while Ursula was in the hospital.
Ursula was a member of St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church. Her family was the cornerstone of her life. She put her trust in Jesus Christ. She often spoke of her Heavenly Family-those who went to be with the Lord before her. She looked forward to being reunited with them someday…
Ursula touched many lives and gathered many friends through her zest for life, her infectious laugh and, of course, her beautiful blue eyes. .She will be deeply missed.
