Obituary for Thomas H. Nichols

Thomas H. Nichols,
Saginaw, Michigan.

Beloved husband, father and grandfather passed away peacefully Monday, March 28, 2022 at Covenant Hospital. Age 93 years. Son of the late Harry and Agnes (Gehrke) Nichols, Thomas was born March 17, 1929 in Saginaw, Michigan. He married Doris Trask, his loving wife of 68 years on September 12, 1953. She survives him. Thomas proudly served in the U.S. Army. He was employed by the City of Saginaw for 30 years until his retirement in 1985. Thomas enjoyed playing baseball for the Saginaw Federation Baseball League. He then went on to coach several baseball teams at Hoyt Park where he helped children to learn the game of baseball. Thomas spent 30 years as an official for the Michigan High School Athletic Association. Following his retirement he enjoyed hunting, fishing and golfing. He especially loved his time spent with Doris and his dog “Patty” at Wilderness Valley in Gaylord, Michigan. His greatest passion in life became supporting his grandchildren throughout all their sporting events and school activities. The grandchildren will forever miss their “Papa”.

Surviving besides his wife of 68 years, Doris Nichols, Saginaw; one daughter, Kimberlee Nichols, Gladwin; two sons, Thomas Nichols Jr., Saginaw; Peter (Susan) Nichols, Saginaw; four grandchildren, Erin (Maxwell) Schmitt, Kalamazoo; Christopher (Kaitlyn) Nichols, Jacksonville, Florida; Curtis (Adrianna) Nichols, Wyoming, Michigan; Hope Nichols, Grand Valley State University; several nieces and nephews. Thomas was preceded in death by one sister, Joanne Grenkoski.

Honoring Mr. Nichols wishes cremation has taken place and no public services will be held. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to Heritage High School Athletic Association.
