Obituary for Sharon K. "Pinky" Snyder

Sharon K. “Pinky” Snyder
Saginaw, Michigan

Beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend passed away Friday, December 29, 2023. Age 82 years. Fondly known as “Pinky”, Sharon Kay (Kocur) Snyder was born August 24, 1941 to the late Maxine Kocur in Saginaw, Michigan. She graduated from St. Charles High School and was one of the 59 graduates of the Class of 1959. She was crowned homecoming queen that year and wore that honor proudly, even to the end! She married Johnny A. Snyder, Jr. on February 11, 1961 in Saginaw. He predeceased her November 7, 2010. Always a hard worker, as a teen, Sharon’s first job was as a soda jerk at the St. Charles Dime Store. Later, while raising a family, she was employed as a cashier at Vescio’s and Farmer Jack’s. She later worked at Means Stamping Company in Saginaw, retiring in 1994. Sharon was a member of the Catholic Faith. Sharon will be lovingly remembered for her straight talk, her love of Christmas and St. Patrick’s Day, cool clothes (along with several shoes!), her pineapple upside-down cakes and her “Pinky 6.”

Surviving are two daughters, one son and their spouses, Shari and Scott Walters, Saginaw; Scott Snyder, Saginaw; Jill and Craig Snook, Saginaw; also surviving are her six grandsons-her “Pinky 6”- each of whom she was willing to protect with her entire being… Steven Snook, Nick (Courtney) Snyder, Jack Snyder (Haleigh Hajek), Spencer (Stacey) Snook, Adam Walters, and Peter Snyder (Lynn Shabluk); one dear great-grandson, Pierson and soon-to-be born a great-granddaughter, Lenni, who’s spring birth was Pinky’s fighting goal, two sisters-in-law, Patricia Yockey and Carol Merz; several nieces and nephews. Besides her husband and her mother, Sharon was preceded in death by two sisters, Barbara Kretz and Vickie Henige; brothers-in-law, Ervin Merz, James Yockey and Jerry Kretz; life-long friend, Patricia (Pat) Wiltz of California; and special cousin, Russ Verbeke, who was more like a brother to her.

The family would like to thank Sandy (friend of the family) and Brie, Nicole and the VNA staff for making Pinky’s final weeks safe, pain-free and comfortable.

Funeral Service will take place on 11:00 a.m. Thursday, January 4, 2024 at The Snow Funeral Home, 3775 N. Center Rd., (between Shattuck and McCarty). Rev. Fr. Steven Gavit will officiate with interment in St. Andrew Cemetery. Friends may visit at the funeral home where the family will be present on Wednesday from 2:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. and Thursday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. In lieu of flowers, those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to Covenant VNA Hospice, Saginaw City Rescue Mission or St. Charles Community Schools.
