Sally L. Meyer
Loving mother, grandmother and sister passed away Wednesday, November 9, 2022 at Brian’s House in Essexville, Michigan. Age 73 years. The daughter of the late Robert DeLand Sr. and Alyce (Obermiller) DeLand, Sally was born June 8, 1949 in Detroit, Michigan. She was previously married to Dennis Meyer. Sally attended Aquinas College in Grand Rapids, earned her BA at Western Michigan University and her Masters of Teaching from Saginaw Valley State University. Sally’s teaching career included students of all ages, from young children to adults of which she was very proud. She taught in the Saginaw Public School System as a special education teacher and at Saginaw Valley State University as an Adjunct Professor. Sally was a member of MEA retired and MARSP (Michigan Association of Retired School Personnel). She was a member of St. Dominic parish where she served on several committees. Sally enjoyed many activities throughout her life including; walking her wonderful dogs, various crafts, volunteering, water exercise, playing cards and lunches with her friends. Sally’s very best times were gatherings with her family and especially watching her amazing grandchildren just be kids. Sally loved the Lord deeply and was grateful for all His blessings.
Surviving are three daughters, Sherry and Patrick Duncan and their children, Breslin and Ridley; Christine and Jason Kenney and their children, Alyce, Liam and Myles; Melissa and Ryan O’Dell and their children, Caleb and Brynn; a brother Rob DeLand; a sister, Mary Kaye and Dan Vader and their children, DC and Tina and their children, Brody and Charlie Grace; Ari and Leila McLaren and their children, Kaia and Kanoa; Ben and Alexia Vader and their children Alexander, Penelope, and John; Dan and Amie Vader and their children Stella and Nora; and Leah and Omar Samman. Also surviving are dear extended family and treasured friends.
Honoring Sally’s wishes, cremation has taken place. A Memorial Service will take place 12:30 p.m. Monday, November 14, 2022 at The Snow Funeral Home, 3775 N. Center Rd. (between Shattuck and McCarty). Rev. Fr. Francis W. Voris, OFM Cap. will officiate . Friends may visit at the funeral home, where the family will be present from 10:00 a.m. until time of service. In lieu of flowers, those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to The Well of Saginaw Men’s Shelter.
