Beloved and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother passed away on Monday, April 10, 2023 at Covenant HealthCare-Cooper Campus. Age 90 years. The daughter of the late Theodore and Theresa (Petoskey) Korting, Ruth was born on June 6, 1932 in Saginaw, Michigan. Ruth married Duane George Fortier on September 27, 1952. He predeceased her on April 23, 1977. She married Bernard J. “Bernie” Hartman on May 13, 1988. He survives her. Ruth was a phone operator for Michigan Bell and then was employed at J.C. Penney for 16 years before retiring. She was a member of St. John Vianney Catholic Church, UCT and Knights of Columbus Council #4232 Ladies Auxiliary.


Surviving besides her husband Bernie are four daughters, Cindy (Bill) Shepard, Vivian Arraut, Terry (Dennis) Kruske and Ruth Ann (Christine) Allison; her step-children, Bernie Steven Hartman, Kim Dupuis, Greg (Lisa) Hartman, Joe Hartman and Rob Hartman; 22 grandchildren, John, Jamie, Kimberly, Joshua A., Joel, Jason, Joshua J., Michael, Charlene, David, Jennifer, Laura, Sean, Shelby, Jacob, Samantha, Meaghan, Brigid, Cayden, Kelee, Mike, Tim; 32 great-grandchildren; her siblings, Albert (Pat) Korting, Martha (Dennis) O’Connor, Mary Lou Korting and Larry (Barb) Korting. Ruth was preceded in death by her siblings, Ted, Nancy, Sandy, Bill and Agnes.


Funeral Liturgy will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 15, 2023 at St. John Vianney Catholic Church, 6400 McCarty Rd. Rev. Fr. Richard Jozwiak will officiate. Private entombment will take place in Mt. Olivet Mausoleum. Friends may visit at The Snow Funeral Home, 3775 N. Center Rd., (between Shattuck and McCarty), where the family will be present on Friday from 2:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. and on Saturday at the church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of Mass. Knights of Columbus Council #4232 Ladies Auxiliary will pray the Rosary at 3:00 p.m. and a Vigil Service, led by Sr. Janet Pewoski, CSJ, will take place at 6:00 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home.
