Our beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and aunt, Ruby Helen (Watson) Reed, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family, in the afternoon hours of Friday, February 10, 2023 at her residence in Houghton Lake, Michigan. Age 90 years. Ruby was born on January 15, 1933 in Saginaw, Michigan to the late Andrew J. and Martha H. (Lehmann) Watson. She was a 1951 graduate of Birch Run High School. On June 20, 1953 Ruby married the love of her life, Richard David “Dick” Reed, and he preceded her in death on August 29, 2011. Throughout her lifetime, Ruby was a self-employed business owner in the Saginaw and Houghton Lake Areas. In 1973 she operated “The Handmade Shoppe” in Saginaw. Following her husband’s retirement in the late 80’s, they moved to Houghton Lake where she started “Ruby’s Lamp Studio”; with hand paintings of glass lamps. In 1993 Ruby and her husband opened the Rose Arbor Antique Shop. Ruby was a past member of the Saginaw Artist Guild, the Altrusa Club of Saginaw, The World Organization of China Painters, and was a past President of Woods and Water Chapter of Houghton Lake. She was also a Ladies Auxiliary Member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 3201 of Roscommon Co., Michigan. Ruby was known by all as an artist; her mind was always creatively spinning. She was an avid painter, quilter, card player, and antique collector. Ruby was a very skilled China Pottery Artist. She could paint, sew, and make just about anything. She was the leader of her friend’s social single senior group. Ruby was a wonderful mother, and she will be missed dearly by all.
