Obituary for Ronald A. Goodwin

Ronald A. Goodwin
Saginaw, Michigan

Loving husband, dad, grandfather, great grandfather and friend passed away Wednesday, April 26, 2023 with his daughter’s by his side. Age 87 years. Son of the late Paul and Ruby (DeForest) Goodwin, Ron was born January 28, 1936 in Saginaw, MI. He was married for 59 years to the love of his life, Nancy Goodwin. Nancy proceeded him in death on March 9, 2021. Ron enjoyed his time up north with Nancy, spending many summers up there. They had a lot of fun and friends up there as well as at home over the years. Ron and Nancy lived in the same home for over 60 years and raised their daughters there and had lifelong friends in their neighborhood. There are many memories of block parties over the years. Ron was a Carrollton Cavalier supporter watching all of his daughter’s basketball games over the years and doing his one on one coaching in the driveway. He later supported his granddaughter when she played in high school and college. Ron was an avid golfer and enjoyed his annual golf trip with the “boys” as well as golfing with friends and family. His daughter and grandson developed a love for golf and they enjoyed golfing together for annual Father’s Day rounds and up at Huron Breeze. Ron built many golf clubs over the years and they were proudly displayed along the wall in his basement. He loved fishing also and took his family and friends along on many excursions. He had a knack for filleting and cooking all kinds of fish, but perch, walleye and salmon were the favorite. Ron enjoyed time with his family. First and foremost, he was a loving husband to Nancy. He was a provider for his family, retiring from General Motors. He cared and supported Nancy for many years as she battled Cancer. He enjoyed watching golf and his family knew from Thursday thru Sunday during golf season a tournament would be on. Ron was always an avid Michigan fan watching all the games. He enjoyed a cold beer including many memories of mom and dad’s “Happy Hours”. Ron had an infectious smile. He was a veteran and was honorably discharged from the U.S. Army.

Surviving to cherish his memory are two daughters, Debbie Falkenberg and Laura Goodwin, both of Saginaw; three grandchildren that he adored, Jamie (Ryan) Maxwell; Joe Falkenberg and Jenna Falkenberg; a great granddaughter that always brought a smile to his face, Berklee Maxewell; brothers and sister-in-laws, Jerry and Marianne Goodwin and Wayne and Kathy Goodwin; many nieces and nephews survive him. Ron was proceeded in death by his parents, Paul Goodwin and Ruby Hodges; his stepfather Don Hodges; his brother Terry Goodwin, and sister Janice (Goodwin) Belt. We would like to extend a few special thankyous to Steve and Stacie Cole for providing special care to Dad, he always enjoyed their visits, and to Kim who was a caregiver and a friend to Ron for many months.

Honoring his wishes, cremation has taken place. To honor and Celebrate his Life as he enjoyed his, we are holding a Celebration of Life at Merl’s Tavern, 304 Shattuck Rd., Saginaw, Michigan 48604, on Saturday, April 29, 2023 from 2:00 p.m.-6:00 p.m. Friends and family are invited to attend and are encouraged to wear their favorite Michigan gear for Ron while they enjoy a “cold one.” He will be missed.
