Beloved and devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather passed away on Wednesday, March 15, 2023 at his home surrounded by his family. Age 80 years. The son of the late Robert and Marion (Munson) Sandon, II, Bob was born on July 23, 1942 in Mankato, Minnesota. He married Janet D. Sobkowiak, his loving wife of 56 years, on March 2, 1967. She survives him. Robert proudly served in the United States Air Force from 1964 until 1968. He was a member of American Legion Post #439. Bob and Janet were longtime members of Christ the Good Shepherd Catholic Church and were members of “The Group” thereof. He was the Quality Control Director for the G. Heilman Brewery in Frankenmuth until its closure. He then went on and eventually retired from Michigan Molecular Institution (MMI) where he worked as a chemist with the Impact Analytical Group. Bob was a member of the Midland Soccer Referee Association and helped coach and referee soccer teams in Saginaw Township for many years. He was also the recording secretary of the “HHH” Group. Bob enjoyed singing and was a member of the Saginaw Choral Society for many years.


Surviving besides his wife Janet are two sons and one daughter, Robert Cassius (Cleigh) Sandon IV, Henderson, Nevada; Brian Scott Sandon, Tega Cay, South Carolina; Bethany Ann (Kevin) Hostetler, Gilbert, Arizona; his grandchildren, Cassius J. (Gabby) Sandon, Katlyn R. Sandon, Cole R. Sandon, Vera E. Hostetler, Vivienne G. Hostetler and Allison L. Hostetler; a great-grandson, Marcus Robert Sandon; his sister, Kay Ellen (Frank) Schmidt; many nieces and nephews; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Ron (Karen) Sobkowiak and Michael (Lori) Sobkowiak.


Honoring Mr. Sandon’s wishes, cremation will take place. Funeral Liturgy will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, March 20, 2023 at Christ the Good Shepherd Catholic Church, 2445 N. Charles. Rev. Fr. John R. Johnson will officiate. Military Honors will be rendered by the United States Air Force and American Legion Post #439. Friends may visit at The Snow Funeral Home, 3775 N. Center Rd., (between Shattuck and McCarty), where the family will be present on Sunday from 12:00 Noon until 4:00 p.m. and on Monday at the church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of Mass. A Vigil Service will take place at 3:00 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to Saginaw Township Soccer Association, St. Jude Children’s Hospital or Christ the Good Shepherd Catholic Church.
