Beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather and great-great-grandfather went to be with his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, February 23, 2022 at Covenant HealthCare-Cooper Campus. Age 96 years. The son of the late Gottfried and Anna (Rusch) Richter, Richard was born on June 20, 1925 in Saginaw, Michigan. He married Clara Kuczwara, his loving wife of 65 years, on November 6, 1948. She predeceased him on November 13, 2013. Richard proudly served in the United States Army Air Force during World War II. He was awarded the Asiatic-Pacific Theatre Ribbon with a Silver Battle Star and the Bronze Battle Star. Upon returning from the war, Richard was employed by Francis Engineering as a surveyor. After meeting Clara, Richard was introduced to the plumbing and heating trade by his father-in-law. They owned and operated Kuczwara and Richter Plumbing and Heating. He was a master plumber for more than 40 years eventually passing his lifelong skill to his son-in-law, Rene Trevino. Richard was a member of Local #85 Plumbers and Pipe Fitters and served on numerous committees. He loved golf and was a member of Maple Hill Golf Course. Richard enjoyed spending time with family. Spending time at their cottage, of 52 years, on Higgins Lake. Boating, snowmobiling, shuffleboard, playing card games and taking his last jet ski ride at age 90 were some of his greatest joys. He liked working in his yard, and helping neighbors when needed. His favorite dance was the polka.


Richard was the patriarch of 5 generations, surviving are three daughters, Wendy Trevino, Saginaw; Nancy and Frank Herron, Traverse City and Pamela and George Rangel, Bay City; six grandchildren, Krista Trevino (Shaun Doyle), Anthony Kuberski, Kelly (Tom) Thompson, Joseph (Emily) Kuberski, Matthew (Desiree) Trevino and Hannah (fiancé, Nicholas Statly) Trevino; 15 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren; his niece and nephew, Bonnie and Rod Arnst. Richard was preceded in death by his sister, Ella Arnst and by his son-in-law, Rene Trevino.


Funeral Service will take place at 12:00 Noon on Friday, March 4, 2022 at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 1502 Maine Street, Saginaw. Chaplain Victoria Bishop will officiate with entombment to follow in Oakwood Mausoleum. Friends may visit at The Snow Funeral Home, 3775 N. Center Rd., (between Shattuck and McCarty), where the family will be present on Thursday from 2:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. and at the church on Friday from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service. In lieu of flowers, those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to East Side Soup Kitchen.
