Obituary for Richard (Dick) Tafel

Richard (Dick) Tafel

Beloved father, grandfather and great-grandfather passed away Monday, June 7, 2021 at Bayfield Assisted Living in Bay City, Michigan. Age 75 years. The son of the late Herbert and Edna (Bauer) Tafel, Richard was born September 19, 1945 in Saginaw, Michigan. He married Virgene K. Fritz, his loving wife of nearly 40 years, on September 22, 1978. She predeceased him November 22, 2017. Dick was employed at General Motors for over 36 years until his retirement. He attended Zion Lutheran Church in Freeland, Michigan. Dick enjoyed hunting and fishing and loved spending time with his grandchildren.

Surviving to cherish his memory are three sons and one daughter, Jeffrey Uhl and Amy Brown, Grand Blanc; Michael and Dana Uhl, Aspen, Colorado; Cori Tafel, Saginaw; Ryan Tafel, Saginaw; seven grandchildren, Genna, Josh, Courtney, M.J., Devika, Danielle, and Graysin; a great-granddaughter, Avery Bluemlein; one sister and one brother, Ann Lash and Gary Tafel; a sister-in-law, Liz Tafel; several nieces and nephews. Dick was preceded in death by a grandson, Michael, and by a brother, Charles.

Funeral service will take place 11:00 a.m. Thursday, June 17, 2021at Zion Lutheran Church, 545 S. Seventh St., Freeland, Michigan. Pastor Rob Schmidt will officiate. Honoring Mr. Tafel’s wishes, cremation will follow. Friends may visit at The Snow Funeral Home, 3775 N. Center Rd., (between Shattuck and McCarty), where the family will be present on Wednesday from 2:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. and at Zion Lutheran Church on Thursday from 10:00 a.m. until time of service.
