Obituary for Richard "Dick" Harris

Richard “Dick” Harris,

Saginaw, Michigan.

A deeply loved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather passed away peacefully Saturday, May 8, 2021 at Ascension St. Mary’s Hospital. Age 80 years. Son of the late Marshall and Lucille (Sensabaugh) Harris, Richard was born July 19, 1940 in Saginaw, Michigan. Dick was a 1958 graduate of Arthur Hill High School. He married the love of his life, Janet Marie Federspiel on September 20, 1958, to whom he remained devoted for over 62 years and from whom he was seldom apart. His career involved working for his father at Harris & Fisher Iron Works for a short time. He then went into business as co-owner of Overhead Door Company of Saginaw with his brother Jim. There he spent the rest of his working life gaining a reputation as a reputable, honest businessman. Dick retired after selling the business in 2001. Many winters were then spent with his wife in Pharr, Texas. Dick enjoyed working on cars and completed a restoration of his father’s 1927 Model T pickup and was a member of the Model T Ford Club. Much time was spent working in his woodshop making pens. Fishing was a steady hobby as was singing as he served the Lord for decades singing in the church choir. He was also a past member of the Lions Club. A ready smile, easy laughter, a healthy sense of humor and a kind spirit were the steady traits people encountered in him.

Surviving besides his wife Janet are one daughter and two sons, Gail Kimball, Alan (Lisa) Harris, Rev. Duane (Lynn) Harris; four grandsons, Josh (Aimee) Harris, Tadd (Nathalee) Harris, Nathan (Megan) Harris, Andrew Kimball; six great-grandchildren; his brother, Ronald Harris; several special nieces, nephews and friends. Dick was preceded in death by two sisters and two brothers, Donna Davenport, Susan Harris, Robert and James Harris.

Funeral Service will take place 11:00 a.m. Thursday, May 13, 2021 at Aldersgate United Methodist Church, 6030 Bay Rd., Saginaw. Pastor Bryan Williams will officiate. Honoring Mr. Harris’s wishes cremation will follow with burial of cremains in Kochville Township Cemetery. Friends may visit at the Snow Funeral Home, 3775 N. Center Rd. (between Shattuck and McCarty), where the family will be present on Wednesday from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and at the church on Thursday from 10:00 a.m. until time of service. In accordance with the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services ordinance, the limitations of number gathered, mask wearing and social distancing will be observed. In lieu of flowers, those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to St. Jude Childrens Hospital or Aldersgate United Methodist Church.
