Obituary for Norbert Meyer

Norbert Meyer
Freeland, Michigan

Our beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather passed away peacefully to be with his dear wife and loving family on Sunday, May 22, 2022. Age 96 years, the son of John and Apolonia Meyer, Norbert was born April 28, 1926 in Albee Township. He was married to Adelaide Keroson on May 26, 1951. She predeceased him December 16, 2014.

Growing up on the family farm, Norbert developed a strong work ethic which along with his deep faith made him the hard working, caring and generous man that he was. In August, 1945 at the age of 19, he was called to serve in the U.S. Army stationed in Germany where he proudly served. Norbert worked at General Motors (Saginaw Transmission Plant) in Plant Security retiring after 34 years. He was a life-long member of the Knights of Columbus Council #593 and the American Legion. He was member of Holy Spirit Catholic Church where he ushered for many years.
Norbert loved to help others, volunteering at St. Francis Home and the Eastside Soup Kitchen. During his daily walks, when he saw a home was being built, he would often stop and say “I’ve got a hammer. Do you need help?” He made many friends that way. He loved to dance, play cards, feed the birds, bowl and golf getting a Hole In One at the age of 90. Norbert had a great sense of humor. He loved to laugh and make others laugh too. Our many memories reflect his devotion to his family. When he saw a need, no matter how big or small, he would always be there for us.

“You were an inspiration and our guide throughout our lives. We thank you for your untiring love and support. Your life will live on through your children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren and all the lives of those you touched.”

Surviving Norbert are his daughters Janet (Joe) Plas, Freeland; Connie Curell, Vassar; three grandchildren Jason (Theresa) Plas, Shanghai, China; Jeana (Brad) Foxman, Dallas, Texas; and Carly Curell, Madison Heights; 4 great-grandchildren, Harper and Beckett Plas; and Ari and Adele Foxman; a sister, Sister Monica Meyer, OP, Grand Rapids; and many nieces and nephews and friends. In addition to his wife, he was predeceased by his son-in-law, Charlie Curell and his siblings brothers Jacob, Adolph, Otto, Joseph and Paul; sisters Ann Reiss, Frances Vordran, Alvina Luplow, Clara Garvey, Margaret Henning, Helen Ebenhoeh, Louise Schlachter, Mary Ploucha, Eleanor Premo, Deloris Maziarz, and Madeline Greene.
