Obituary for Michael Anthony Kurecka

Michael Anthony Kurecka
Saginaw, Michigan

Michael Anthony Kurecka, age 64, of Saginaw, Michigan passed away in his home surrounded by family on September 27, 2022 of metastatic epithelioid hemangioendothelioma. He was born on July 25, 1958 to Henry and Mary Margaret Kurecka.

He attended St. Mary’s and then eventually Delta College where he completed his Associate’s degree as a radiologic technologist. While studying at Delta, he met his wife Pamela and they married on September 24, 1983. Mike had a long and fulfilling career working at St. Luke’s and then later Covenant HealthCare as an x-ray tech; he eventually transitioned into the CT department where he helped start the first CT scanner at St. Luke’s and then later the cath lab where he worked as a cardiovascular technologist. Mike was a conscientious, dedicated employee with a curious mind who poured his heart into his work and touched the lives of his patients and colleagues alike. He was well-respected in his department and retired in December of 2020 after almost 41 years of service.

Mike had a diverse array of interests and a creative nature; he was artistic and enjoyed hobbies such as working on model airplanes and reading science fiction. After his retirement, he spent the next year learning to re-side his entire home which he completed himself, in addition to a variety of other projects. He had a love for animals and trained three family dogs whom he adored: Molly, Zoey, and Lily. Mike also loved the outdoors, and he and his family would vacation every summer to Munising, Michigan and the Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore where they would hike and sightsee around Lake Superior. Later, they would spend many summers together in Traverse City, Michigan.

Ultimately, Mike’s greatest love of all was his family whom he treasured dearly and prioritized above all else. He had a long and wonderful marriage of 39 years to his wife Pam, and they had two children, Patrick and Rachel. Mike was a loving, devoted husband and father who was willing to sacrifice everything for his family. He had a generous and caring spirit which extended to everyone he encountered; he truly embodied the phrase “salt of the earth.” A deeply spiritual person, Mike felt close to God and lived his life exemplifying the values of his faith.

His spirit will live on through his wife, Pamela Kurecka; children Patrick Kurecka and Rachel (Javin) Kurecka Brita; and siblings Kathryn Trombley, Kenneth (Janet) Kurecka, Donald (Karen) Kurecka, and Thomas Kurecka. Michael was preceded in death by his parents Henry and Mary Margaret Kurecka; his brother-in-law Thomas Trombley; his nephew Nicholas Kurecka; and his grand-niece Faith Trombley.

A Celebration of Mike’s life will take place at 6:00 p.m. on Friday, September 30, 2022 at The Snow Funeral Home, 3775 N. Center Rd., (between Shattuck and McCarty). Kathy Myles will officiate. Friends may visit at the funeral home where the family will be present on Friday from 3:00 p.m. until the time of service.
