Obituary for Mary Jean (Monsees) Poineau

Poineau, Mary Jean (Monsees)
Saginaw, Michigan

Our beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and aunt, Mary Jean (Monsees) Poineau passed away peacefully with family by her side in the late evening hours of Sunday, May 8, 2022 at the Renaissance Assisted Living Facility in Stanardsville, Virginia. Age 84 years. Mary was born on May 27, 1937 in Saginaw, Michigan to the late John Herman and Mollie (Arnst) Monsees. On February 16, 1963 inside of St. Mary’s Cathedral in Saginaw, Michigan, Mary married the love of her life, Thomas Julius Poineau, and he preceded her in death on February 21, 2006. Mary loved to spend time with friends and family. She also loved decorating her home with all sorts of collections. This lifelong hobby was borne from raising baby chicks as a youngster and had grown throughout her life. Her love of Christmas was felt by all and warmed the house and our hearts every season. We will miss her laughter, her fun and her spirit.

Left to cherish her memories are her two daughters, Gail Ann Schultz of Caro, Michigan and Nannette (Dale) Smith of Swoope, Virginia; grandchildren, Kari Schultz, Barry (Lexi) Schultz, Brianne Schultz, Dale Smith, Jr., Mathew Smith, Robert Smith, David Smith, Steven Poineau, and Colleen Poineau; several great-grandchildren; brother, Roy (Nancee) Monsees; numerous brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, and nephews. Mary is happily reunited with her husband, Thomas J. Poineau; two sons, Mark Duane Poineau and Thomas Julius Poineau, Jr.; granddaughter, Lindsey Schultz; parents, John Herman and Mollie (Arnst) Monsees; sister, Geraldine (Henry) Leis; and special aunt, Amelia “Meme” Arnst, who fulfilled her mother role after the young passing of her mother, Mollie.

A Celebration of Mary’s Life will be held at Snow Funeral Home, 3775 N. Center Road, Saginaw, Michigan 48603 on Friday, June 3, 2022 at 3:00 p.m. Officiating will be Pastoral Associate, Tori Little. Friends and family may visit from 12:00 pm until the time of service. In lieu of flowers, those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider a memorial to the Humane Society or charity of your choice.
