Obituary for Mary Ellen Vetterle

Mary Ellen Vetterle
Saginaw, Michigan

Beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, sister-in-law, aunt, and friend passed away on Sunday, March 24, 2024, at Ascension St. Mary’s Hospital in Saginaw, Michigan, at the age of 73 years. Mary was born on March 20, 1951, in Saginaw, Michigan, to the late William and Esther (LaFrance) Fritz. She married Daniel John Vetterle, her loving husband of 52 years, on December 20, 1969. Mary had been employed by Saginaw General Hospital, retiring in 1999. After retirement, she spent time working in the Saginaw Public School District and doing medical transcriptions. Mary and her husband were members of First Christian Church West Disciples of Christ, and she later continued her faith by attending St. Dominic Parish in Saginaw. Mary found great joy in taking care of others and spending time with her husband, son, daughter-in-law, and granddaughters. She had many fond memories of going up to the family cabin on Big Island Lake, including boating, going to the beach, and getting ice cream in Tawas. Mary loved hosting the family for the holidays—setting up crafts and playing games like Michigan Rummy, Penny Ante, and Yahtzee. Attending her son and granddaughter's sporting events brought her much excitement, and she could often be heard on the sidelines cheering them on. Throughout the years, Mary enjoyed many hobbies and interests, including sewing, bowling, baking cakes for events, reading, and shopping.

Left to cherish her memory are her son, Daniel, and his wife, Jennifer Vetterle II; two granddaughters, Kiley and Morgan Vetterle; one brother, Mathias and Diane Brown; sisters Augusta Ahejew, Christine DeCaire, Carol Racine, and Alisa (Leonna) Yearwood; one brother-in-law, John and Betty Vetterle; one “heart” uncle, Alan Wolfgang; and many special nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews. Mary is happily reunited with her husband, Daniel; her grandmother, Esther LaFrance; mother, Esther Fritz; parents-in-law, John and Viola Vetterle; sisters, Donna Hare and Esther Lane; brothers, William, Jerry, and Joe Fritz; sisters and brothers-in-law, Sharon and Michael Miller and Sheila and Robert Ott; brothers-in-law, Russ Ahejew and Dan DeCaire; nephews, Craig Miller, Bobby Ott, and B.J. Hare; nieces, Tracy Ott and Robbie Lane; and many other special people.

Honoring Mrs. Vetterle’s wishes, cremation has taken place. A memorial service, officiated by Rev. Fr. Steven Gavit, will take place on Wednesday, April 3, 2024, at 5:00 p.m. at Snow Funeral Home, 3775 N. Center Road (between Shattuck and McCarty). Friends and family members may visit the funeral home where the family will be present on Wednesday from 3:00 p.m. until the time of service at 5:00 p.m. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to St. Dominic Parish.
