Obituary for Mark Lee Zissler

Thomas Township, Michigan

Beloved father and grandfather passed away on Monday, September 5, 2022. Age 73 years. The son of Grace (Hedden) Zissler and the late Frederick Zissler, Mark was born on May 18, 1949 in Saginaw, Michigan. He was a 1967 graduate of Arthur Hill High School. Since graduation, Mark had a hand in the planning in all of the high school class reunions. After high school, he was drafted into the United States Army and served in Vietnam from 1969 until 1970. After being discharged, Mark went to barber school and was a lifelong barber in the Saginaw area, and since 2008 owned and operated Hemlock Barber Shop. He loved to hunt and fish, but his greatest joy in life was spending time with family, especially his grandchildren. Mark was a member of V.F.W. Post #7302 and American Legion Post #22.


Surviving are one daughter and one son, Janet (John) Chan, Tampa, Florida; Matt (Josie) Zissler, Austin, Texas; eight grandchildren, Tanner, Christopher, Kaitlyn, Jude, Ezra, Zeke, Daxx, and Arie; his mother, Grace Zissler; his longtime companion, Christine Ward, Freeland; two nieces and one nephew. Mark was preceded in death by his brother, John Zissler and by his infant brother.


Honoring Mark’s wishes cremation has taken place. Military Honors will be rendered at 12:00 Noon on Friday, September 9, 2022 by American Legion Post #22 at the Saginaw County Veterans Memorial Plaza, 1574 S. Washington Ave. Family and friends will gather at the Veterans Plaza on Friday beginning at 11:30 a.m. The family requests no flowers. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to any local veteran organization.
