Obituary for Mark Allen DeGroat

Mark Allen DeGroat,
Freeland, Michigan

Beloved husband, father, grandfather and brother passed away suddenly, Saturday, March 23, 2024 at his home. Age 64 years. Son of Alice (Bourassa) DeGroat and the late Arthur DeGroat, Mark was born December 29, 1959 in Saginaw, Michigan. He married Teresa Link, his loving wife of 39 years, on February 16, 1985. She survives him. Mark earned his Bachelor’s Degree from Central Michigan University and was a CAD-CAM Supervisor at Nexteer, retiring in 2018. He was a member of the Catholic Faith. Mark enjoyed hunting, fishing, and spending time at his property up north. He also loved spending time with his family, especially his six grandsons.

Surviving besides his wife Teresa are three daughters, Amber and Dr. Caleb Ortega, Midland, Michigan; April and Dr. Gerald Whitney, Freeland, Michigan; Autumn DeGroat and her fiancé Blake Dittenber, Saginaw, Michigan; six grandsons, Connor, Levi, Simon and Dexter Ortega, Hunter and Warner Whitney; his mother Alice DeGroat, Midland, Michigan; two sisters, Cynthia Vorwerck, Broomfield, Colorado; Susan DeGroat, Murrells Inlet, South Carolina; two brothers, Kirk and Susan DeGroat, Chesterfield, Michigan; Eric and Kendra DeGroat, Austin, Texas; three sisters-in-law, Janice and Timothy Rock, Oxford, Michigan; Jacqueline Nivison, Sugar Springs, Michigan; Jerri and William Liphard, Midland, Michigan; many aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. Mark was preceded in death by his father, Arthur DeGroat; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Richard and Veronica Link; a brother-in-law, Michael Link; and his nephew, Benjamin Nivison.

Funeral Liturgy will take place 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, April 2, 2024 at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, 5376 State St., Saginaw, Michigan. Rev. Fr. Steven Gavit will officiate with burial in St. Andrew Cemetery. Friends may visit at The Snow Funeral Home, 3775 N. Center Rd. (between Shattuck and McCarty), where the family will be present on Monday, April 1, 2024 from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. and on Tuesday at the church from 9:30 a.m. until time of Mass.
