Marilyn Joy Franzel
Saginaw, Michigan

Loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother passed away Tuesday, May 17, 2022 at Brian’s House in Essexville, Michigan. Age 89 years. The daughter of the late Willard and Mary (Tripp) Carigan, Marilyn was born July 1, 1932 in Saginaw, Michigan. She was married to Rev. John F. Franzel Jr. on December 4, 1948. He predeceased her July 2, 2011. Marilyn worked alongside John as an administrative assistant for many years. While raising her family, she ventured out independently and was a salesperson for Better Brushes, Watkins Toys, Avon and Amway. John and Marilyn founded Guiding Light Baptist Church in 2006. She was very active in the church, serving as Sunday School Superintendent, Deaconess and sat on the board of directors.

Surviving to cherish her memory are one son and three daughters, Dr. Daryl (Darlene) Franzel, Luverne, Alabama; Sheryl (Ken) Munsch, Ft. Myers, Florida; Keryl “Kaitlin” (John) Anderson, Marietta, Georgia; Diane (Rick) McConnell, Saginaw; 12 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Marilyn was preceded in death by her granddaughter, Krista Munsch; her siblings, Annabell Carigan, Wilmer (Emma) Carigan and Donnabelle (DeWayne) Hall.

Funeral Service will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, May 25, 2022 at The Snow Funeral Home, 3775 N. Center Rd. (between Shattuck and McCarty). Marilyn’s son, Dr. Daryl Franzel will officiate with interment to follow in Eastlawn Memorial Gardens. Friends may visit at the funeral home where the family will be present on Tuesday, May 24, 2022 from 3:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. and on Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. until time of service. In lieu of flowers, those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to the wishes of the family.
