Loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and sister passed away Sunday. January 1, 2023 at Wellspring Assisted Living. Age 89 years. Daughter of the late Leonard and Mary (Oczepek) Bawolski, Lorraine was born January 29, 1933 in Saginaw, Michigan. She was married to Donald Greanya. He predeceased her. She was then married to Russell H. Clarey. He predeceased her. Lorraine was a clerk at Michigan Bell Telephone Company and was also employed at Farm Bureau Insurance Company. She was a member of St. Agnes Catholic Church and its Altar Society. Lorraine and Russ enjoyed spending their winters in Florida and especially spending time with her family.


Surviving to cherish her memory are her children, Denise and David Williamson, Debra and Jim Morris, Lori and Gene Pickelman, Sister Dorcee Clarey, Patrick and Gayle Clarey, Rod and Denise Clarey, Hobart Clarey, Mary and Herman Bertuleit; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; two sisters, Ceil and Bernie Rogeszewski, Rita Rappley; several nieces and nephews. Lorraine was preceded in death by two sons, Tim and Paul Clarey, a sister, Theresa and Ronald Murawski and a brother-in-law Robert Rappley.

Lorraine’s family extends their gratitude and appreciation to Wellsprings Assisted Living Caregivers and American Health and Hospice Caregivers, for their loving and compassionate care.


Honoring Mrs. Clarey’s wishes, cremation has taken place. A Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated 11:00 a.m. Friday, January 6, 2023 at St. Agnes Catholic Church, 300 Johnson St., Freeland, Michigan. Rev. Fr. Christian Tabares will officiate. A private burial of cremains will take place in St. Andrew Cemetery. Friends may visit at St. Agnes Catholic Church where the family will be present on Friday from9:30 a.m. until time of Mass. In lieu of flowers, those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to St. Agnes Parish Helping Hands or East Side Soup Kitchen.
