Turner, Lisa Marie (Hill)
Saginaw Township, Michigan
After a long and valiant battle with breast cancer, Lisa Hill Turner passed away on May 16, 2022, at the age of 43. However, our strong and courageous warrior friend's spirit has not come to an end with her death. The light of this beloved wife, mother, stepmom, daughter, sister, and friend to all who knew her will continue to shine on forever in those who loved her. Her loved ones will continue to honor her legacy by living their lives to the fullest, as Lisa did.
Lisa was an inspiration to all who knew her. She was born August 30, 1978, in Saginaw, MI to Anita (Lewis) and Terry Hill. She was the middle child between two brothers with whom she shared a deep and loving relationship. Growing up in Hemlock, Lisa had an epic childhood - experiencing adventures that would create a foundation for who she would become as a teacher, wife, and mother.
Lisa earned her Bachelor’s degree from Saginaw Valley State University and went on to be an award-winning teacher at Swan Valley Middle School where she taught English, math, and life-skills. She also earned her Master's Degree in Early Childhood Education from SVSU - a program she did alongside her mom. She retired from teaching in 2019 and became the Owner and Director of Growing Years Christian School & Childcare Center.
Lisa lived a life of service, whether it was sitting on the school’s awards committee or engaging with the school improvement team. She was always working to make her community stronger. Lisa created a camp for teen girls, Girl HYPE, where she encouraged young women to boost their self-confidence through fun and unique activities and empowered them to become future leaders of their community.
In addition to teaching, Lisa loved being active. She coached basketball and volleyball, and even ran a marathon at age 40! Her spirit came alive when she was near the water with friends and family. The water was her favorite place and was where she felt peaceful and secure.
Lisa’s greatest accomplishment in life was being a mother. Lisa was born to be a mom. She first became a mom in 2006 to a beautiful baby girl, Isabella. Two years later, her twin boys Collin and Teague joined the family. In 2020 she became stepmom to Owen and Maddie. Lisa loved the “chaos” of a big family. She loved taking her kids on trips, big or small, and was known to create some pretty epic scavenger hunts. She was in the front row at every event; somehow, she did it all. She loved everything about being a mom - the driving, the cooking, the talking, the listening, but she was best at just loving her children.
Lisa had a smile that lit up any space she was in. A faithful woman, she was a captivating example of a woman living out her faith. She genuinely loved all people and her loving spirit connected the people around her. She was devoted, not only to her children and husband, but to her friends and extended family as well.
Lisa is survived by her loving husband Tim Turner, daughter Isabella “Bella” Workman (16), sons Collin & Teague Workman (14), stepchildren Owen (16) and Maddie (14) Turner, her mother Anita (Steve) Collins, brother Matt (Laura) Hill, brother Mike (Jessica) Hill, niece Grace Hill, nephews Lukas Hill and Statham Hill, and countless friends, aunts, uncles, cousins, colleagues, and students past and present. Lisa was preceded in death by her father, Terrence “TJ” Hill (2006). Lisa was a shining example of how to live a selfless life, and she lived every day with such grace and beauty. Her legacy is one of love, devotion, and service and will be carried on by those who loved her.
