Obituary for Leo Nauer, Jr.

Passed away February 8, 2022 at the age of 93. The son of the late Leo and Daisy (Mueller) Nauer, Leo was born December 19, 1928 in Saginaw, Michigan. He married his beloved wife Iris Jozwiak on August 7, 1954 in Saginaw. She predeceased him in 2010. Leo graduated from St. Mary Cathedral High School in Saginaw in 1946, and the University of Michigan in 1950 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry. He served his Country in the U.S. Army Chemical Corp. in Japan during the Korean War. He was employed by the Dow Chemical Co. as an analytical chemist for 33 years, retiring in 1986. Leo had life memberships in the Knights of Columbus Council 4232 and the Germania Town and Country Club in Saginaw. Leo and Iris were members of St. Thomas Aquinas Church in Saginaw for 47 years where Leo served on the Parish Council until they moved to Grand Rapids in 2006. Leo was a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Grand Rapids.

He is survived by his son Richard (Kathleen) Nauer, of Birmingham, Michigan; his daughter Jacqueline (Guy) Yondo, of Caledonia, Michigan; his adored grandchildren Jonathan Nauer, of Brooklyn, New York; Christopher (Nicole Miller) Nauer of Birmingham, Michigan; Chelsea (Matt) Yondo Feller of Morrison, Colorado; and Hailey (Paul) TenHarmsel, Portland, Michigan; and his brother-in-law Fr. Richard Jozwiak of Saginaw.

A private family ceremony will be held at the Snow Funeral Home, Saginaw, Michigan. Anyone wishing to make a memorial contribution in Leo’s memory may contribute to the Spectrum Health Foundation, Hospice Support, Grand Rapids, Michigan; the Killgoar Foundation for IHM Elementary School, Grand Rapids, Michigan; or the Beacon Hill Benevolent Care Fund, Grand Rapids, Michigan.
