Beloved husband, father and grandfather passed away on Monday, January 16, 2023 at Saginaw Senior Care. Age 94 years. The son of the late Grover and Gertrude (Robins) Coon, Ken was born on August 31, 1928 in Saginaw, Michigan. He married Alice Mae Bowerman. She survives him. A well-known builder of fine homes, Ken graduated from Arthur Hill High School and earned a degree in Architectural Engineering from Michigan State University. An avid outdoorsman, Ken enjoyed hunting, fishing, skiing and snowshoeing, especially on the Au Sable River and around the Hiawatha Club near Naubinway in the Upper Peninsula. Ken devoted many winter nights in his garage handcrafting authentic birch bark canoes. Ken enjoyed visiting Lake Superior and frequently visited White Fish Point for agate hunting, often taking the family in his cherished Airstream “Land Yacht”. He lavished time and attention on his yard, landscaping and gardens, including his favorite gladiolas. Ken proudly served his country in the United States Army, in Europe, during the Korean War from 1952 until 1954. Ken and Alice were charter members of St. Dominic Parish- St. Stephen Catholic Church and was a member of the Masonic Lodge. Ken was a good friend and neighbor and will be greatly missed by many.


Surviving besides his wife Alice are his children, Ken (Trish) Coon, Rockford, Michigan; Michael Coon, Saugatuck, Michigan; his Sue Ellen (Scott Helmholz) Stuits, Harbor Springs, Michigan; his grandchildren, Braden (Whitney) Coon, Bryce (Jillian) Coon, Jerry (Savannah) Stuits and Allison Stuits; his great-grandchildren, Olivia and Skylar Coon, Ryker Stuits. Ken was preceded in death by his siblings, Jim Coon and LaVina Robins.


Honoring Mr. Coon’s wishes cremation has taken place. Funeral Service will take place at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, January 21, 2023 at St. Dominic Parish – St. Stephen Catholic Church, 2711 Mackinaw Rd. Rev. Fr. Steven Gavit will officiate. Interment will follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery with Military Honors rendered by the United States Army and American Legion Post #439. Friends may visit at the church on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of Mass. In lieu of flowers, those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to the wishes of the family. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to The Snow Funeral Home, 3775 N.
