Loving wife, mother and grandmother passed away Thursday, October 13, 2022 at her home surrounded by her family. Age 63 years. Daughter of the late John and Elizabeth (O’Connell) O’Keefe, Kathleen was born December 16, 1958 in Redford, Michigan. She was married to Michael W. Garety, her loving husband of 44 years at Our Lady of Loretto in Redford, Michigan on August 26, 1978. He survives her. Kathleen was a mammographer employed at St. Mary’s Hospital and shared her talents at U of M Hospital and other medical facilities. She was a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Midland. Kathleen loved to travel around Michigan visiting shorelines and lighthouses. She also enjoyed watching her beloved Tigers, and especially spending time with her family and spoiling her grandchildren.
Surviving besides her husband Michael are one daughter and two sons, Erin (Adam) Deal, Midland; Mathew (Lindsey) Garety, New Boston ; Joseph (Kelly) Garety, Midland; eight grandchildren, Tristan, Addison, Eliana, Landon, Peyton, Nolan, Bennett and Whitney; her siblings, Michael (Julie) O’Keefe, Colleen (Richard) Currie, Patricia Ball, Brian (Colleen) O’Keefe; many nieces and nephews. Kathleen was preceded in death by her parents, John and Elizabeth O’Keefe and one brother, Daniel O’Keefe.
Funeral Liturgy will take place 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, October 18, 2022 at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, 3109 Swede Ave., Midland, Michigan. Rev. Fr. Robert Howe will officiate. Honoring Mrs. Garety’s wishes cremation will follow. Family and friends may visit at The Snow Funeral Home, 3775 N. Center Rd., Saginaw, Michigan, where the family will be present on Monday from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and at the church on Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. until time of Mass. A Vigil Service will take place 7:00 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to Motts Children Hospital or the American Cancer Society.
