Karen Mae Wheeler was born June 12th, 1951 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to Maurice "Moe" Allen Wheeler and Elizabeth "Betty" Mae O'Connell at Philadelphia Naval Hospital. She was Baptised on the 23rd of December 1951 at First Primitive Methodist Church in Philadelphia. She earned her G.E.D. from the State of Michigan and worked as a CNA in various facilities. Karen loved reading the Smithsonian Magazine, watching Youtube videos, and learning about history.
She is survived by her son Elijah Jacob Shalis, daughter Kimberly Ann Atkinson, sisters Wendy Gene (Woodard) Nitzel and Paula Awilda(Woodard) Krysiak, various nephews and nieces, stepbrother Donald T. Inman, and her cat Charlie. She was predeceased by her parents, son Nathanial David Wheeler, sisters Diane Lynn Wheeler and Constance "Connie" Elizabeth Woodard, stepfather W.G. Woodard, and stepmothers Cora Margaret (Hummel) Wheeler and Mary Ann (Karpuk) Wheeler, and stepbrother Dennis Keith Inman.
Honoring Karen’s wishes, cremation has taken place and no services will be held at The Snow Funeral Home.
