Beloved father and grandfather passed away on Tuesday, March 2, 2021 at his home. Age 82 years. The son of the late Lloyd and Helen (Quance) Wait, John was born on May 29, 1938 in Petoskey, Michigan. He married Nancy Gillett on December 31, 1960. He then married Linda Fraser in 1991. She predeceased him on January 7, 1999. John was a long-time business owner having originally owned and operated Jack and Jill Nursery with his former wife Nancy before owning and operating a 7-11 franchise in Saginaw where he will be remembered by his 7-11 family for his good business sense and his quick wit. He loved spending summers at his childhood home in Petoskey which always included dinners at the Noggin Room, Amigo rides downtown and through the art fairs in Charlevoix and Harbor Springs. He loved dining out with family, especially his Monday Hamburger Nights at the Knights of Columbus. John was a long-time avid collector and anyone who visited his home in Saginaw or Petoskey would be amazed by his collection of memorabilia and, in particular his collection of steins. John was a member of the Fordney Club and Knights of Columbus Council #4232. He was a joy to be around and was quick to laugh. Among those who will miss him the most, he will long be remembered as “Spring Break Boy”.
Surviving are two daughters, Melissa (Chris) Fila and Tracy (Andrew) Concannon; five grandchildren, Alicia (Michael) Bradley, Jonathan (Amanda) Doerr, Will Concannon, Haley Fila and Ethan Concannon; four great-grandchildren, Lincoln and Reese Bradley and Alice and Pierce Doerr.
Funeral Service will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 6, 2021 at The Snow Funeral Home, 3775 N. Center Rd., (between Shattuck and McCarty). Rev. Paul Hinz will officiate. Honoring Mr. Wait’s wishes cremation will follow. Burial will take place in Petoskey. Friends may visit at the funeral home where the family will be present on Friday from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. and on Friday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. In accordance with the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services ordinance, mask wearing and social distancing will be observed. In lieu of flowers, those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to the Fordney Club or the Knights of Columbus Council #4232.
