John C. Mitas, Jr.

Beloved husband, father and grandfather passed away suddenly on Sunday, July 3, 2022 at Covenant HealthCare-Cooper Campus. Age 74 years. The son of the late John and Gloria (Wager) Mitas Sr., John was born on June 25, 1948 in Saginaw, Michigan. John graduated from Buena Vista High School class of 1967. John was drafted into the United States Army from 1968 until 1970 during the Vietnam Era. He was employed for General Motors for 38 years retiring in 2006. He also served on the Buena Vista Township and Carrollton Township Fire Departments. John married Marcia (Baase) Brenske on June 18, 2022. She survives him. For many years, John volunteered as the Honor Guard Captain for American Legion Post #439 and also volunteered on the honor guard for V.F.W. Post #1566. He enjoyed bowling and grilling out.

Surviving besides his wife Marcia are two sons, Jason A. (Donna) Mitas, Saginaw; John C. Mitas III, Saginaw; five grandchildren, Austin A. Mitas, Skylar J. (fiancé, Zachary) Mitas, Brady A. Mitas, Kaitlyn C. Mitas, Nala M. Mitas; one great-grandchild, Jade E. Mitas; two step-children, Michelle Loeffler and Brian Gillman, Jr. ; step-grandchildren, Logan Brown, Corey Loeffler and Layla Cook; four sisters, Carol (Barry) Nelson, Columbia, Maryland; Sharon Abler, Hagerstown, Maryland, Rosie Peters, Bay City; Mary (Eric) Wiskoff, Portland, Oregon; many nieces and nephews. John was preceded in death by his brothers-in-law, Edward Abler and Bob Peters.

John’s family would like to express their sincere appreciation to the staff of Covenant ICU for their loving and compassionate care given to him.

Honoring John’s wishes cremation has taken place. Visitation will take place on Thursday, July 7, 2022 from 3:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at The Snow Funeral Home, 3775 N. Center Rd., (between Shattuck and McCarty). The Carrollton Fire Department and American Legion Post #439 will do a walk-thru on Thursday at 6:00 p.m. Military Honors will take place at 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday, July 12, 2022 at Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly, Michigan. In lieu of flowers, those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to American Legion Post #439.
