John C. “Jack” Gorney
Hemlock, Michigan


Beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend passed away Sunday January 15, 2023. Age 89 years. Son of the late John A. and Edna (Fraham) Gorney, John was born July 13, 1933 in Saginaw, Michigan. He was a 1952 graduate of Holy Rosary High School. He married Patricia Ann Girard, his loving wife of 70 years, on November 8, 1952. She survives him. John was employed in skilled trades at G.M. Malleable Iron with forty years of service retiring January 1, 1991. He was a member of U.A.W and Hemlock J.C’s. He enjoyed traveling, bowling, golf, camping and fishing with his son Paul, a tree planter, and an avid gardener sharing his produce with his friends and neighbors. John also was an avid sports fan and enjoyed watching the Tigers, Red Wings and Lions. John found homes for many stray dogs and he and Pat and their big grey Austrian Shepard walked three miles, three times a week for many years. He was a kind and gentle man and will be dearly missed by all who knew him.


Surviving besides his loving wife Patricia are one son and one daughter, Paul and Paula Gorney, Luann M. Jannarone and husband Michael Snodgrass; five grandchildren, Eric D. and Jen Gorney, Aaron T. Gorney, Emily A. Nipper, Alexander J. Deal, Paul and Annarea Deal; five great-grandchildren, Jace and Bryce Gorney, LoraLei R. Deal, Ethan Nipper, Oliver T. Deal; several cousins, nieces and nephews. John was preceded in death by his daughter, Elaine S. Deal; a son, Mark T. Gorney; his sister, Shirley J. Taylor and her husband Glen F. Taylor and many cousins. A special thanks to his cousin Bob Gorney, our helping neighbors, Henry and Lorraine Martin, Chuck and Bonnie Braley, Al Braley, Dan and Pat, Ashleigh and Pam; HealthSource Staff and A & D Hospice for their tender loving care for John.


Honoring Mr. Gorney’s wishes cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Life will take place at a later date. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to Saginaw City Rescue Mission, Saginaw County Humane Society or the charity of their choice.
