Obituary for John "Big John" Michalski

Beloved father, grandfather and brother passed away Wednesday, August 24, 2022 at Covenant HealthCare Harrison. Age 86 years. Son of the late Alexander and Leona (Wrobleski) Michalski, John was born May 23, 1936 in Bay City, Michigan. He proudly served in the U. S. Army from 1959 to 1961. He married Barbara J. Kuk on May 10, 1958. She predeceased him May 18, 2020. John was employed by the Saginaw City Police Department. He was a member of St. John Paul II Parish-St. Josaphat Catholic Church. He was a member of the Saginaw Pistol Club and enjoyed interaction with many people especially at CJ’s Auto and Faler Drug Store.


Surviving to cherish his memory are two daughters, Laura Michalski, Saginaw; Jenifer and Terry Minnema and their children, Emily, Nathan and Tyler, Muskegon; his sister, Carolyn Chamberlein, California; a sister-in-law, Clarice and Ron Weber, Britton, Michigan; several nieces and nephews. John was preceded in death by four brothers, Casimir, Tom, Paul and Chet Michalski; sister-in-law, Janice and Charles Suitor; and a brother-in-law, James T. Kuk.


Funeral Liturgy will take place 11:00 a.m. Saturday, August 27, 2022 at St. John Paul II Parish, St. Josaphat Catholic Church, 469 Shattuck Rd., Saginaw. Rev. Fr. William Rutkowski will officiate with Military Honors conducted by V.F. W. Post #1859. Honoring Mr. Michalski’s wishes cremation will follow. Friends may visit at the Snow Funeral Home, 3775 N. Center Rd. (between Shattuck and McCarty, where the family will be present on Friday from 2:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. and at the church on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until time of Mass. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to St. Jude Children’s Hospital or the Shriners Hospitals for Children.
