Obituary for James M. Eickholt

James M. Eickholt,
Saginaw Twp., Michigan.

Beloved husband, father, grandfather and brother passed away Saturday, April 29, 2023 at Covenant HealthCare Harrison. Age 76 years. Son of the late Andrew and Ann (Hanzek) Eickholt, James was born June 20, 1946 in Saginaw, Michigan. He was a graduate of St. Paul Seminary, a 1968 graduate of Aquinas College and Central Michigan University receiving two master’s degrees. He married Sandra K. Grim, his loving wife of 52 years, on August 22, 1970 at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church. She survives him. James was a teacher, counselor and assistant football coach for 35 years at Bridgeport Spaulding Community Schools. He was past president of Bridgeport Education Association. Jim was a member of St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus Council #4232. He was a passionate supporter of sports, especially Notre Dame, the Detroit Red Wings, Tigers and Lions. He loved playing hockey and golf but, above all, Jim loved spending time with his family.

Surviving besides his wife Sandra are one daughter and two sons, Holly and Jerry Cunningham, North Carolina: Adam Eickholt, Saginaw Twp.; Andrew and Ashley Eickholt, Saginaw Twp.; five grandchildren, Jakob, Jaxon, Jayse, Breana and Lachlan; two brothers, Eugene Eickholt, Virginia; David and Kathryn Eickholt, British Virgin Islands; one sister, Jacqueline and John Wells, Arizona; several nieces and nephews. James was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Marjorie Rose Cunningham and one brother, Robert and Shirley Eickholt.

Funeral Liturgy will take place 11:00 a.m. Thursday, May 4, 2023 at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, 5376 State St., Saginaw, Michigan. Rev. Fr. Richard Bokinskie will officiate. Burial will take place 3:00 p.m. Thursday in Vinewood Cemetery, Edmore, Michigan. Friends may visit at the church where the family will be present on Thursday from 10:00 a.m. until time of Mass.
