Obituary for James "Jim" Hurren

Beloved father, papa and great-papa passed away on Sunday, October 30, 2022 at his home. Age 73 years. The son of the late Robert B. and Thelma M. (Armstead) Hurren, Jim was born on April 26, 1949 in Harbor Beach, Michigan. Jim proudly served in the United States Marine Corps from 1967 to 1969. While stationed in California, he met the love of his life, Melinda Valle. They were married on February 21, 1970. She predeceased him on July 5, 2005. Jim worked for General Motors for 35 years retiring in 2005. Following his retirement, Jim was president of UAW Local #467 until 2009. In his younger years, he was volunteer firefighter for Taymouth Township Fire Department. He enjoyed watching western movies, bowling, wood working, going to the casino, fishing, but most of all spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Surviving are two daughters and two sons, Michelle Hurren, Birch Run; Marlo (Joe) Pedersen, Lumberton, North Carolina; Daniel Hurren, Mt. Pleasant and Jason Hurren, Mt. Pleasant; six grandchildren, Monique (T.J.), Jacob, Nathan, James, Madison and Piper; five great-grandchildren, Carter, Kaiden, Mikhenna’Jo, Nicholas and Melinda; a brother, Robert (Sharon) Hurren, Bad Axe; three sisters-in-law and one brother-in-law, Rosie Valle, Valerie Valle, both of Los Angeles, Dr. Michelle (John) McIntosh, Kansas City, Missouri; nephews and niece, Loren Hurren, Brandon Hurren, Paul (Gina) Valle and Paula (Jose) Castanon; many great-nieces and great-nephews; special family friend, Michael Sawyer-Martinez. Jim was preceded in death by his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Elias and Mary (Lopez) Valle.

Honoring Jim’s wishes cremation has taken place and private memorial service will be held. Military Honors will be rendered and burial of cremains will take place in Eastlawn Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to Tunnels to Towers Foundation. Arrangements have been entrusted to The Snow Funeral Home, 3775 N. Center Rd.
