Obituary for James Edward “Jim” Schutt

James Edward “Jim” Schutt,
Saginaw, Michigan.

Beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend passed away on Thursday, February 2, 2023 at HealthSource Saginaw. Age 73 years. The son of the late Clarence and Mildred (Stein) Schutt was born on October 9, 1949 in Bay City, Michigan. He married Kathleen Seager Sonnenberg on June 19, 1993. He was previously married to Cheryl Kleekamp. He was a graduate from T.L. Handy High School, Delta College and Western Michigan University. Jim worked for over 40 years in the electrical business in Michigan and North Carolina including the Square D Company and Rockwell Automation. He was a hard worker and a dedicated family man. He was a member of the Tri-City Carvers Club. Jim enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles, stained glass art work, and woodcarving. Jim made several glass and wood pieces for family and friends. Jim will be remembered for his loving and caring spirit, his generosity, quick wit and humor. He could easily recall many historical facts and trivia. Jim cherished time spent with his children and grandchildren. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

Surviving are his loving wife, Kathy; two children and three step-children, Matthew Schutt (Casey) of Northridge, California, Kristen Schutt of Saginaw, Michigan, Scott Sonnenberg of Kalkaska, Michigan, Michael Sonnenberg (Chris) of Saginaw, Michigan, and Jeffrey Sonnenberg of Chandler, Arizona; five grandchildren, Bryce, Dede and Willo Schutt, Nicholas and Hailey Sonnenberg; three brothers and two sisters, Don Schutt (Diane), Karen Vogtmann (Bob), Jack Schutt (Nancy), Alan Schutt (Diane) and Annette Cawley (Kevin); and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Richardson, the Great Lakes unit at HealthSource Saginaw, and Promedica Hospice for their loving and compassionate care.

Funeral Liturgy will take place 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, February 8, 2023 at St. John Vianney Catholic Church, 6400 McCarty Rd., Saginaw, Michigan. Rev. Fr. José Maria Cabrera will officiate. Cremation will take place following the Mass with interment in Oakwood Mausoleum. Friends may call at the Snow Funeral Home, 3775 N. Center Rd. (between Shattuck and McCarty), where the family will be present on Tuesday from 2:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. and on Wednesday at St. John Vianney Catholic Church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of Mass. A Vigil Service will take place 6:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to City Rescue Mission of Saginaw or St. John Vianney Church.
