Obituary for Herbert D. Casey

Herbert D. Casey
Saginaw, Michigan

Beloved husband, dad, Papa and brother went to be with the Lord Monday September 19, 2022. Age 65 years. Son of the late Kenneth and Mary (Brown) Casey, Herbert was born August 15, 1957 in Saginaw, Michigan. He married, the love of his life for 45 years, Elizabeth “Beth” Gerger on July 9, 1977. She survives him. Herb was employed by the City of Saginaw as a Utilities Foreman for 30 years, retiring in 2007. He was a member of St. Agnes Catholic Church and past President of the Shiawassee Flats Advisory Council. Herb had a servant heart and thoroughly enjoyed volunteering. He especially enjoyed all the wonderful people he met while delivering Meals on Wheels, and the time he spent building archery ranges at the Field and Stream Club. Herb lived to hunt, fish, and golf and took great pleasure in sharing his passions with his children and grandchildren. He never had a bow season without filling a tag, was a steelhead legend on the AuSable River, and was lucky enough to get two holes in one.

Surviving besides his wife Beth are two sons and one daughter, David H. (Erin) Casey, Freeland; Kelly M. (Adam) Hume, Oscoda; Paul M. (Candice) Casey, Hemlock; seven grandchildren, Tyler, Zachary, Emma, Jacob, Olivia, Natalie and Audrey; three brothers and one sister, Kenneth (Patti) Casey, Mt. Pleasant; Patricia (Perry) Schaffner, West Branch; Christopher (Linda) Casey, Skidway Lake; Matthew Casey, Mt. Pleasant; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Kathleen (Bruce) Kackley, Florida; Joellen (Doug) McKindles, Kentucky; Jennifer ( Jim) Krach, Florida; Warren Nowicki, Saginaw; several cousins, nieces and nephews. Herb was preceded in death by his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Joseph and Edwina Gerger, one sister-in-law, Sue Nowicki and a brother-in-law, Joseph J. Gerger.

Funeral Liturgy will take place 11:00 a.m. Saturday, September 24, 2022 at St. Agnes Catholic Church, 300 Johnson, Freeland, Michigan. Rev. Fr. Christian Tabares will officiate.
