Harry A. Matekel,
Saginaw, Michigan.
Beloved father and grandfather “Papa” passed away Sunday, June 6, 2021 at New Hope Assisted Living. Age 93 years. The son of the late Louis and Angeline (Pelko) Matekel, Harry was born July 15, 1927 in Saginaw, Michigan. He served in the U.S. Navy. Harry married Helen A. Burzyck on October 18, 1952. She predeceased him September 29, 2008. Harry was a tool and die maker at Jameson Tool and GM Delco Marine retiring in 1992. He was a member of St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, an usher at the church, Knights of Columbus Council #4232. Harry enjoyed playing Euchre, was an avid bowler having three “300 Games’” and had a passion for golf with membership at Maple Hill Golf Club for 40 years being known as “Magical Matekel” and having three “Hole in Ones”.
Surviving are one daughter and two sons, Diane Matekel, David Matekel, and Gregg Matekel; three grandchildren, Meghan, Nolan and Andrew Matekel; one niece, Colleen (Tim) DeShone, and one nephew Gary Murphy. Harry was preceded in death by one sister and two brothers, Nell Murphy, William Matekel and Louis Matekel.
Funeral Liturgy will take place 10:30 a.m. Friday, June 11, 2021 at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, 5376 State Street in Saginaw. Rev. Fr. Richard Bokinskie will officiate with entombment in St. Andrew Mausoleum. Friends may visit at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church where the family will be present on Friday from 9:30 a.m. until time of Mass. In lieu of flowers, those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to St. Thomas Aquinas Church or Nouvel Catholic Schools.
