Guadalupe “Lupe” Hernandez

Our beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend Guadalupe “Lupe” Hernandez, passed away in the late evening hours of Thursday, February 3, 2022 at the Covenant HealthCare – Harrison in Saginaw, Michigan. Age 92 years. Lupe was born on July 2, 1929 in Kansas City, Missouri to the late Modesto and Carmen (Anguino) Hernandez. On September 26, 1953 inside of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Saginaw, Michigan. Guadalupe married the love of his life, Juanita De La Cruz, and she preceded him in death on March 19, 2020. Lupe was employed at General Motors for over 31 years retiring in 1977. After his retirement, he did maintenance for Candlelite Bowling Center, in Bridgeport, for 8 years. Lupe was a member of the American GI Forum, Crusillista since 1964, Associates of Bernadine Franciscan Sisters, St. Thomas Aquinas Church and its Befrienders Group, U.A.W. Local #668 and Toastmasters International.

Surviving are three daughters and four sons, Claudia Hernandez, Mattawan; Diana Hernandez, Mattawan; Laura Garcia, Brownstown; Gerardo (Cheryl) Hernandez, Round Rock, Texas, Roberto Hernandez, Austin, Texas, Carlos Hernandez, Saginaw; Mario Hernandez, Bay City; 11 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. Lupe was preceded in death by his three sisters, Francisca, Felipa and Paula.

Funeral Liturgy will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, February 9, 2022 at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, 5376 State Street. Rev. Fr. Richard Bokinskie will officiate. Entombment will follow in St. Andrew Mausoleum. Friends may visit at the church where the family will be present on Wednesday, February 9, 2022 from 10:00 a.m. until the time of Mass. In lieu of flowers, those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to American GI Forum Scholarship Fund.
