Obituary for Gregory James "Greg" Ostrom

Ostrom, Gregory James “Greg”
Saginaw Township, Michigan

Our beloved son, brother, uncle, nephew, cousin, and friend, Gregory James “Greg” Ostrom, passed away unexpectedly on February 17, 2022 at his residence in Saginaw Township, Michigan. Age 50 years. Greg was born on March 28, 1971 in Saginaw, Michigan to his father, Daniel James Ostrom, and his late mother, Sharon Ann (McGeorge) Ostrom. Greg was a graduate of Eisenhower High School. Following high school, Greg furthered his education and attended Northwood University for his undergraduate in Accounting and Finance, and then attended Wayne State University Law School. After law school, Greg spent time working for several prominent law firms locally and out of state; before opening his own private practice, Ostrom Law Firm. On July 2, 2004 at Apple Mountain Resort in Freeland, Michigan, Greg married the love of his life, Dr. Tara Swanton, and she survives him. Greg was a member of the Masonic Lodge, Republican Party, Saginaw County Bar Association, and the Rotary Club of Saginaw, Michigan. He was very proud of his Real Estate License. Greg’s favorite place in the whole world was the great outdoors of Northern Michigan. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, trapping, camping, kayaking, downhill skiing, and hiking; anything that involved the great outdoors. Evening walks down the road with Tara were very special to him. Greg and Tara camped regularly, but their favorite camping spot was Tara’s own backyard in Glennie because they would see an abundance of wildlife. Traveling was a way for Greg to get away from the real world; he and Tara visited Las Vegas, Mackinaw Island, Disney World, and numerous other great places. Greg loved attending lots of country music concerts, reading books, cooking, painting, singing karaoke, playing video games, and photography. Greg’s siblings, nieces, and nephew will always remember his generosity. Greg was always sneaking money to his nieces and nephew to play the claw machine while out to breakfast, for shopping trips, or just because he had an extra $2 bill in his pocket. Greg always lectured them about their future financial planning and persuading them into being future lawyers like himself. Greg’s passion for magic tricks has been adopted by his adored nieces and nephew. With Greg’s numerous joys in life, nothing brought him more joy than the time he was able to spend with his family and friends. He was sure to let you know that. Greg will be missed dearly by all, and his memories cherished forever.

Left to cherish his memories are his wife, Dr. Tara Swanton; his father, Daniel (Carlene) Ostrom; siblings, Timothy (Megan LaFontaine) Ostrom and Marla (Brandon) Lemley; step-brothers, Jeffrey (Lori) Grasso, Jon (Jennifer) Grasso, Jay (Amy) Grasso, and Jay (Kelly) Kostrzewa; nieces and nephew, Augustine Ostrom, Avery and Brayden Lemley; aunt, Carole (Roy) Pollen; uncle, Roger (Margo) McGeorge; his kitty, Meow; the Kostrzewa Family; and numerous cousins and friends. Greg is happily reunited with his mother, Sharon Ann (McGeorge) Ostrom; grandparents, Edwin and Luella Ostrom and Allen and Pearl McGeorge; and aunt, Lynn Cruce, and step-mother, Kathleen Kostrzewa.

At the request of Greg and his family, cremation has taken place and a Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 19, 2022 at The Snow Funeral Home, 3775 N. Center Rd. Saginaw, MI 48603 (Between McCarty and Shattuck Rd.). Officiating will be Pastor Mark Hazen. Memorial Visitation will take place at the funeral home from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. Inurnment will take place at Newton-Compau Cemetery in Vassar, Michigan. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider a memorial to the “Wishes of the Family”, in care of Daniel Ostrom to create a scholarship fund for Greg’s nieces and nephew. Arrangements have been entrusted to The Snow Funeral Home, www.snowfuneralhome.net
