Gordon “Big G” Cortez,
Saginaw, Michigan.
Beloved husband, father, brother and uncle passed away Sunday, April 11, 2021 at his home. Age 57 years. Son of the late Hernan and Helen (Flores) Cortez, Gordon was born June 27, 1963 in Saginaw, Michigan. He was a 1981 graduate of Arthur Hill High School. He married Debra Flores, his loving wife of 37 years, on April 20, 1985. She survives him. Gordon retired from Midland County Juvenile Correction Center after 25 years of service. Later he was employed at Saginaw Public Schools, Bridgeport School District and Saginaw ISD Transition Center as Campus Security Paraprofessional. He was an active member of St. Joseph Parish, a lector and vice president of its men’s club. He was very active in the Latino Basketball Group, a football coach at Weber Junior High, and especially loved helping the young youth.
Surviving besides his wife Debra are one daughter, Luisa Flores-Cortez; his sister, Sandra and Victor Diaz; two brothers, Hernan and Stella Cortez Jr., Lorenzo and Nancy Cortez Sr.; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Sandy and Alberto Ortiz, Linda and Michael Looby, Frank and Felicita Flores; many nieces ,nephews and beloved friend of many. Gordon was preceded in death by his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Frank and Velia Flores.
Funeral Liturgy will take place 11:00 a.m. Friday, April 16, 2021 at St. Joseph Church, 936 N. 6th Ave., Saginaw. Rev. Fr. Francis W. Voris, OFM Cap. will officiate. Honoring Mr. Cortez wishes cremation will follow. Friends may visit at the Snow Funeral Home, 3775 N. Center Rd. (between Shattuck and McCarty), where the family will be present on Thursday from 2:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. and at St. Joseph Church on Friday from 10:00 a.m. until time of Mass. In accordance with the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services ordinance, the limitations of number gathered, mask wearing and social distancing will be observed. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to St. Joseph Parish.
