Obituary for Gerald Justin Carroll

Beloved brother and uncle passed away on Saturday, July 30, 2022 at his home after long battle with cancer. Age 87 years. The son of the late Justin and Louise (Putnam) Carroll, Gerald was born on August 28, 1934 in East Tawas, Michigan. JC (affectionately called by his seven nephews) graduated from St. Andrew High School in 1953. Jerry served in the Michigan National Guard from 1953 to 1961. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council #593 and the United Commercial Travelers (UCT) for over 50 years. He, his father Justin and brother Edward, owned and operated Carroll Hardware in Saginaw for over 52 years, selling the business before retiring in 2000. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, spending time at his cabin, camping and attending the Tiger spring training games in Florida in the winter. After his brother Ed passed away, he loved to spend time with his brother Mike in Port Charlotte, Florida during the winter.


Surviving are one brother, Michael Carroll; seven nephews, David Kruske, Stephen (Julie) Kruske, Andrew Kruske, Gerald Kruske, Matthew Kruske, Aaron Carroll and Adam (Lori) Carroll; and nine great-nieces and nephews and one great-great-niece. Gerald was preceded in death by his siblings, Patricia (Robert) Kruske, Edward Carroll and his sister-in-law, Gretchen Carroll.


Funeral Liturgy will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, August 3, 2022 at St. Dominic Parish – SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, 4735 W. Michigan Ave. Rev. Fr. Steven Gavit will officiate. Interment will follow in St. Andrew Cemetery. Friends may visit at The Snow Funeral Home, 3775 N. Center Rd. (between Shattuck and McCarty), where the family will be present on Tuesday from 2:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. and on Wednesday at the church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of Mass. In lieu of flowers, those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to the American Cancer Society or to the charity of their choice.
