Beloved husband, father and grandfather passed away on Sunday, June 26, 2022 at University of Michigan Hospital in Ann Abor. Age 76 years. The son of the late John and Linda (Welzein) Wheatley, Ed was born on August 18, 1945 in Owosso, Michigan. He married Katherine Zolinski, his loving wife of 54 years, on June 6, 1968. She survives him. Ed was employed at LaFarge Corporation for 30+ years retiring in 2006. He loved being outdoors and enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping and trips to the U.P. Ed rarely missed a sporting event of his kids or grandchildren. Ed loved being with his family, especially his grandchildren.
Surviving besides wife Kathy are three sons, Ryan (Jen) Wheatley, Seattle, Washington; Jon (Carrie) Wheatley, Freeland; Adam (Bobbie Jo) Wheatley, Saginaw; seven grandchildren, Ava, Mia, Brody, Zander, Parker, Kyle and Tyson; brothers-in-law, Don (Joyce) Zolinski, Mary (Barry) LaTarte and John (Lisa) Zolinski; many nieces, nephews and cousins. Ed was preceded in death by two siblings Jackie Austin and Ron Wheatley.
Funeral Liturgy will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, June 30, 2022 at St. Dominic Parish – St. Stephen Parish, 2711 Mackinaw Rd. Rev. Fr. Steven Gavit will officiate. Military Honors will be rendered by American Legion Post #439. Honoring Mr. Wheatley’s wishes cremation will follow. Friends may visit at The Snow Funeral Home, 3775 N. Center Rd., (between Shattuck and McCarty), where the family will be present on Wednesday from 3:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. and on Thursday at the church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of Mass. In lieu of flowers, those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to University of Michigan Hospital – Rogel Cancer Center, St. Dominic Parish or charity of their choice.
