Edward Joseph McCarthy,
Freeland, Michigan.
Beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend passed away Friday, August 26, 2022. Age 75 years. Son of the late William and Edwina (Vogt) McCarthy, Edward was born March 5, 1947 in Saginaw, Michigan. He proudly served in the U.S. Army. Edward married Mary Jane Torka, his loving wife of 54 years on April 20, 1968. She survives him. Edward was employed at General Motors for 35 years retiring in 2004 and was a member of U.A.W. Local #668. He was also member of St. Agnes Catholic Church in Freeland. Edward was an avid golfer, enjoyed bowling, was a great University of Michigan fan and especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.
Surviving besides his wife Mary are two daughters and one son, Jeff and Sarah McCarthy, Lansing; Kristy McCarthy, Saginaw; Amy and Garrett Schmidt, Saginaw; two grandchildren, Hudson Schmidt and Cecilia McCarthy; one brother and four sisters, Kevin and Nancee McCarthy, Florida; Geanine Huntone, California; Marie Dijak, Saginaw; Cheryl Boyer and her partner, Dan Wozniak, Saginaw; Sharon and George Howe, Saginaw; many nieces and nephews. Edward was preceded in death by one son, Sean Christopher McCarthy; and one brother, William Patrick McCarthy III.
Funeral Liturgy will take place 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, August 31, 2022 at St. Agnes Catholic Church, 300 Johnson St., Freeland, Michigan. Rev. Fr. Christian Tabares will officiate. Burial will take place in St. Andrew Cemetery with Military Services conducted by V.F.W. Post #1859. Friends may visit at the Snow Funeral Home, 3775 N. Center Rd. (between Shattuck and McCarty), where the family will be present on Tuesday from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and at the church on Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. until time of Mass. The Rosary will be prayed 3:00 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to American Cancer Society.
