Edward David Maurer,
Freeland, Michigan.
Beloved father, grandfather and brother passed away Saturday, July 9, 2022 surrounded by his family and friends. Age 70 years. Son of the late Richard G. and Elaine (Dubay) Maurer, Edward was born June 1, 1952 in Saginaw, Michigan and was a longtime resident of Freeland. In 1970 he joined the Air Force, where he was stationed in Montana and Guam. After returning home from the Air Force he returned to Freeland, where he continued to put down roots and wear many hats. He served as Tittabawassee Township Supervisor where during that time he was instrumental in building Hayes Park (formerly known as Tittabawassee Park). Edward was a Real Estate Broker, Builder, Auctioneer, and Golf Course Owner. He built many homes around Freeland, including the Riverview Condominiums all with the end goal of being able to build his own Golf Course, formerly known as the Bayou Golf Club. Ed’s zest for life and success were unwavering, he was often heard telling people that there’s nothing in this world that you can’t do if you put your mind to it.
Surviving to cherish his memory are two daughters, Joy (Rodney) Dutton, Freeland; Katie Maurer, Freeland; two grandchildren, Madison and Lucas Dutton; two sisters, Judi Werkema, Janice Maurer; his brother, David Stephens; special friend Julie Southworth; good friends, Jerry, John, Mario, Sam and many others. Edward was preceded in death by his best friend and partner of 50 years, Gail (Maurer) Rossman.
Funeral Service will take place 10:00 a.m. Saturday, July 16, 2022 at The Snow Funeral Home, 3775 N. Center Rd. (between Shattuck and McCarty).Pastor Julie Bailey will officiate with burial in Westside Cemetery in Freeland. Friends may visit at the funeral home, where the family will be present on Friday from 2:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. and on Saturday from 9:00 a.m. until time of service. In lieu of flowers, those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to American Cancer Society or American Diabetes Association.
