Obituary for Edward A. "Ed" Chobod

Chobod, Edward A. “Ed”
Saginaw, Michigan

Our beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and uncle, Edward A. “Ed” Chobod, passed away in the early morning hours of Sunday, March 5, 2023 at Covenant HealthCare – Cooper in Saginaw, Michigan. Age 84 years. Ed was born on January 6, 1939 in Saginaw, Michigan to the late Joseph G., Sr. and Sophie R. (Misko) Chobod. He attended Saginaw High School, and went to work for the city in his younger years. After over 38 years of service with U.S. Graphite in Saginaw, Michigan, Ed retired in 2004. On March 31, 1962 inside of St. Matthew Catholic Church in Zilwaukee, Ed married the love of his life, Hazel Verniece Schmidt, and she survives him. Throughout his lifetime, Ed was a devoted member of the Catholic Faith; most recently attending St. Francis of Assisi Parish. Ed will forever be remembered for his extraordinary work ethic. He was known to be a very meticulous man; making sure the yard, home, and car were maintained in a pristine manner. “He was a wholesome man of character”. In times of better health, Ed and Hazel were avid Fashion Square “Mall Walkers”; spending time together and meeting wonderful friends along the way. Embracing his Polish heritage, Ed enjoyed listening to Polka music around his home on the weekends. Ed loved Westerns, slap stick comedy, and especially the Three Stooges.

Left to cherish his memories are his loving wife of almost 61 years, Hazel Verniece Chobod; two children, Kimberly (Steve) Brown of Chesapeake, VA and Jeffrey (Carla) Chobod of Richmond, VA; grandchildren, Stephen Brown Jr., Jonathan Brown, and Alicia Chobod; two brothers, Joseph, Jr. (Barbara) Chobad and Jerry (Leslie) Chobod; several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Ed is reunited with his daughter, Susan; parents, Joseph, Sr. and Sophie (Misko) Chobod; and infant sister, Mary June Chobod.

The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 11, 2023 at St. Francis of Assisi Parish (St. Anthony of Padua Church), 3680 S. Washington Rd. Saginaw, MI 48601. Celebrating will be Rev. Fr. Alberto Vargas. Visitation will take place at church, only, on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of Mass. Immediately following Mass, family and friends will travel in procession to Mt. Olivet Cemetery for the Rite of Committal and Interment. In lieu of flowers, those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider a memorial to “St. Francis of Assisi Parish, Building Fund”. Arrangements have been entrusted to The Snow Funeral Home, www.snowfuneralhome.net
