Douglas Edwin Wagener
Saginaw, Michigan
Formerly of Burlington, Iowa
Our beloved brother, brother-in-law, uncle, and friend, Douglas Edwin Wagener, passed away peacefully in the early morning hours of Tuesday, April 5, 2022 at Ascension St. Mary’s Hospital. Age 75 years. Douglas was born on November 22, 1946 in Davenport, Iowa to the late Bernard H.F. and Haldis (Bredesen) Wagener. Douglas attended Southeastern Community College in West Burlington, Iowa; there he received two Associates Degrees. During the Vietnam War, Douglas proudly served his country as a member of the United States Navy. On June 25, 1977 Douglas married the absolute love of his life, Gloria J. Inman, and she preceded him in death on April 14, 2016. It was an honor and cherished memory for Douglas and Gloria to have the first wedding reception on the campus of Saginaw Valley State University; it was at the same university where Douglas met the love of his life. For over 20 years, Douglas worked as a Stage Hand, Theatre Building Director, and Electrician for the Saginaw Valley State University. Douglas was a longtime member of the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees, I.A.T.S.E. Being a part of the union brought great satisfaction to Gloria and Douglas; meeting new friends and traveling the country. One of Douglas’s favorite pastimes was playing with and collecting model trains. Douglas enjoyed electronics from all decades; especially computers. Douglas will be missed dearly by all, and his memories will be cherished forever.
Left to cherish his memory are his three siblings, Bernal (Ronald) Koch, Bambi (Timothy) Orth, and Dale (Marina) Wagener; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Charles Inman, Lori (Charles) Capron, Jacqueline (David) Janetski, and Gary Piegols; numerous nieces and nephews; and special friends Casey Mietz and Tom and Linda Priest. Douglas is happily reunited with his wife, parents, fur-baby Carmel; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Joseph and Florence (Funk) Inman; and sisters-in-law, Diana Piegols and Marva Inman.
The Funeral Service will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 10, 2022 at The Snow Funeral Home, 3775 N. Center Rd., (between Shattuck and McCarty). Pastor Susan Hand will officiate. Friends may visit at the funeral home where the family will be present on Sunday from 3:00 p.m. until the time of service. Following services in Michigan, Douglas will be transported to his hometown of Burlington, Iowa where burial will take place in Memorial Park Cemetery. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider a memorial in memory of Douglas E. and Gloria J. Wagener to Support Staff Scholarship at Saginaw Valley State University.
