Beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother passed away on Friday, July 29, 2022 at Bavarian Comfort Care in Bridgeport. Age 85 years. The daughter of the late Elmer and Henrietta (Bull) Sawatzki, Dorothy was born on January 6, 1937. She married Dale C. Ferchau on February 5, 1955. He survives her. Dorothy enjoyed traveling, bowling, playing cards and going to the ca$ino. Her greatest joy however, was spending time with her family. She was a member of St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church.
Surviving besides her husband Dale are two daughters and two sons, Cindy (Rick) Todd, Charlevoix; Bob (LuAnn) Ferchau, Saginaw; Vicki (Tom) Gross, Petoskey and Jim (Gina) Ferchau, Freeland; 14 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, one sister, June Ostler; many nieces and nephews. Dorothy was preceded in death by her siblings, Bob (Marguerite) Sawatzki, Marion (Arnold) Schluckebier, Bunny (Tom) Girard; her brother-in-law, Fred Ostler.
Dorothy’s family would like to extend their sincere appreciation to the staff of Bavarian Comfort Care and Care Team Hospice for their loving and compassionate care.
Funeral Liturgy will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, August 2, 2022 at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, 3945 Williamson Rd. Rev. Fr. John Mancini, OSFS will officiate with interment to follow in Spaulding Township Cemetery. Friends may visit at The Snow Funeral Home, 3775 N. Center Rd., (between Shattuck and McCarty), where the family will be present on Monday from 2:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. and at the church on Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of Mass. In lieu of flowers, those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to The Care Team Hospice.
