Our beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and aunt, Donna Jean Karas (Hartwig), passed away suddenly in the evening hours of Sunday, August 14, 2022 at Covenant HealthCare – Cooper in Saginaw, Michigan; she is now in the loving hands of our Heavenly Father. Age 74 years. Donna was born on March 6, 1948 in Saginaw, Michigan to the late Arthur August and Esther Barbara (Poellet) Hartwig. Donna was a graduate of Douglas MacArthur High School. Soon after high school, Donna began working for Michigan Bell in Downtown Saginaw. Donna worked for Michigan Bell and Ameritech until her retirement in 2005. Donna was a lifelong member of Peace Lutheran Church and School; Donna was baptized and confirmed at Peace. Over the years Donna actively volunteered for PTL, Ladies Guild, Funeral Luncheons, and gardening at the Peace School on Lawndale. She enjoyed spending holidays with her family and taking long walks with her beloved dogs; Sasha and Sadie.

Left to cherish her memories are her children, Michael A. (Cheryl) Karas, Brandon P. (Casey) Karas, and Leslie K. (Jon) Hansen; eight grandchildren, Keagan Karas-Holnagel, Hallie Karas, Sidney Karas, Samuel Karas, Riley Karas, Katie Hansen, Natalie Hansen, and Maggie Hansen; significant other, Jim Babala; sisters, Ardith (Larry) Akers and Nettie Lynn (Paul) Goehler; and several nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Donna is happily reunited with her parents, Arthur A. and Esther B. (Poellett) Hartwig; and sister, Lucy Hartwig

The Funeral Service will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, August 22, 2022 at Peace Lutheran Church, 3427 Adams Ave. Saginaw, MI 48602. Officiating will be Rev. Erik Schmidt. Visitation will take at church on Monday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service. Private Family Interment will take place in Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Saginaw, Michigan.
