Obituary for Daniel E. Michalak

Michalak, Daniel E.
Saginaw, Michigan

Our beloved father, brother, and uncle, Daniel E. Michalak, passed away unexpectedly and suddenly in the afternoon hours of Wednesday, November 16, 2022 at the Aleda E. Lutz VA Medical Center in Saginaw, Michigan. Age 80 years. Daniel was born on December 16, 1941 in Saginaw, Michigan to the late Edward Leo and Eva Jane (Tomich) Michalak. He was a 1959 graduate of Holy Rosary Catholic High School. Following graduation, Daniel went on to proudly serve his country as a member of the United States Air Force. Following his service, Daniel went on to further his education by attending Central Michigan University and Saginaw Valley State College; where he earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Education and also in Computer Programming. On August 27, 1983 inside of St. Rita’s Catholic Church Daniel married the love of his life, Debra Lynn Greenia, and she preceded him in death on August 1, 1996. Throughout his lifetime, Daniel played numerous roles and worked a variety of different jobs; at the end of his career he found great satisfaction in teaching the youth at several local school districts as a substitute teacher. Daniel was a longtime member of St. Mathew Catholic Church where he actively helped as an Usher and Eucharistic Minister; he is currently a member of St. John Paul II Parish. Daniel was an avid Detroit Sports Fan; especially cheering on the Tigers and Lions through thick and thin. Every year Daniel kept hope for the Lions to send a team to the Super Bowl. While living in Oklahoma and not having the access to support the Lions, he cheered on the Cowboys only because the color scheme was close to the same. He also loved crosswords and reading; he was always looking for a new book. Daniel also looked forward to “Family Get Together’s”, and was always there to lend a helping hand to a family member or friend. Daniel will be missed dearly by all, and his memories will be cherished forever.

Left to cherish his memories are his two sons, Daniel E. Michalak II of Saginaw, MI and Dean C. Michalak of Ann Arbor, MI; sister and brother, Lanajane Shorey and Dennis L. (Marla S.) Michalak; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Anne (Chris) Rottiers, Vic Shephard, Janet Prater, Sandy Greenia, Gerry Greenia, Wayne Greenia, Kevin (Muriel) Greenia, and Ronald Greenia; numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, and friends. Daniel is happily reunited with his wife, Debra Lynn Michalak; parents, Edward Leo and Eva Jane (Tomich) Michalak; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Leo and Marjorie (Morel) Greenia; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, John Shorey, Lori Shephard, Michael Prater; and several cousins.

At the request of Daniel and his family, cremation has taken place and a Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, November 23, 2022 at St. John Paul II Parish – St. Josaphat Church, 469 Shattuck Rd.
