Beloved wife, mother and grandmother passed away on Wednesday, November 9, 2022 at Ascension St. Mary’s Medical Center. Age 77 years. The daughter of the late Herman and Naomi (Warner) Johnson, Carol was born on January 25, 1945 in Lansing, Michigan. She married Barry Brown, her loving husband of 55 years, on June 17, 1967. He survives her. At an early age and until her mid 20s, Carol developed a passion for raising and showing English Cocker Spaniels. Carol earned her Bachelor’s Degree and Master’s Degree from Michigan State University, and she also studied abroad at the University of Toluca in Mexico and the Université Laval in Canada. She taught French and Spanish at the high school level. She began her career in Lansing, and then in 1976 moved to Saginaw with her family. She taught at St. Mary Cathedral High School, St. Stephen High School and eventually retired from Nouvel Catholic Central High School in 2006. Carol was a member of the Michigan Education Association and National Education Association. She was very active at her church, First United Methodist. She enjoyed golfing and was a former member of Maple Hill Golf Club. Carol also like to garden, play cards and dominoes, pay an occasional visit to the casino and go bowling. Carol and her family also enjoyed more than 3 decades of magic together at Disney World in Florida. After Carol and Barry retired, they spent a lot of time traveling to see friends and family, and spent their winters in Florida.

Surviving besides her husband Barry are two sons, Jason (Cheryl) Brown, Charleston, South Carolina; Adam (Kristy) Brown, Falmouth, Massachusetts; four grandchildren, Ben, Andrew, Rory and Spencer Brown; one sister, Judy (Steve) Klus, Sun Prairie, Wisconsin; a brother, Tom (Maria) Johnson, New Bern, North Carolina.

Honoring Mrs. Brown’s wishes, cremation has taken place. A Memorial Service will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 24, 2023 at First United Methodist Church, 4790 Gratiot Rd. Rev. Amy Terhune will officiate. Friends may visit at the church on Saturday, June 24, 2023 from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. In lieu of flowers, those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to First United Methodist Church, 4790 Gratiot Rd. or a charity of your choice. Arrangements have been entrusted to The Snow Funeral Home, 3775 N. Center Rd.
